Our Senior Partner successfully chairing the IAPL General Assembly at Barcelona

Our senior partner Moses Cheng is currently serving as the President of IAPL, the International Association of Practising Lawyers, a global alliance of practicing lawyers which is headquartered in Zurich.

The IAPL held it's 29th General Assembly between the 14 to 16 of October in Barcelona in Spain. The General Assembly was well attended by members and their families. Moses left Hong Kong on the 12th together with his wife and daughter Vena to join the occasion.

Barcelona has in recently years become one of the favorite tourist attractions in Europe offering interesting sightseeing spots, good food and shopping.

IAPL members attending the General Assembly visited the Parliament House of Barcelona, the Bar Association, the medieval town and the Sagarda Familia (the family church ) designed by the famous architect Gaudi, still under construction 90 years after the initiation of the project.

During the visit to the Bar Association ( Illustre Collegi D'Advocats De Barcelona ) which is housed in an old palace, members were warmly received by Mr. Eudald Vendrell Ferrer, it's Vicedecano ( vice-president ). They were also given a tour of the library of the Association, which is one of the law libraries with the largest and oldest collection of law books in Europe.

Members also attended a professional development seminar comparing the laws applicable to agency and distributorship between The United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. Besides being very interesting, members found the presentations extremely educational and inspiring.

At the General Assembly, besides the usual agenda of reviewing and approving the financial statements of the Association and giving a decharge to the board, members welcome two new members joint the Association; approving the new design of the Association's brochure and website, giving a new and more upbeat image to IAPL.

Most important of all members have resolved to come to Asia again next year for the 2012 General Assembly. Subject to the decision of the board after consultation with the membership, it would either be Beijing or Chengdu. Members expressed a keen interest in learning more about the opportunities offered by China and the practice of the legal profession there. Our firm would be playing host to the 2012 IAPL General Assembly together with our associate firm Zhonglun W & D.

Members had the most enjoyable experience attending the Barcelona Assembly and were most grateful to the hospitality and welcome extended by the host, our member from Barcelona, Toni.

Moses, our senior partner thanked members for their support and contribution during the year which made 2010 - 2011 a good and successful year.
